What Is a DPF Filter and Does It Have Buyback Value?

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a soot particle filter in the exhaust system of diesel vehicles. Its job is to trap soot before it is released into the air.

How a DPF works

Inside the housing is a ceramic filter block with channels that are alternately closed at the inlet and outlet. The exhaust gas has to pass through the porous channel walls, and the soot particles are trapped. The filter is periodically “cleaned” by burning off the accumulated soot — this is called regeneration.

Does a DPF filter have buyback value?

Many DPF filters have a catalytic coating with precious metals, and in some vehicles they are combined with an oxidation catalyst in the same housing. That is why a used DPF filter can have buyback value. How much depends on the specific model, so the valuation is based on the marking, a photo and vehicle details.

How to request a DPF filter valuation

  1. Photograph the whole filter and the markings on the housing.
  2. Note the make, model and year of the vehicle.
  3. Send it through the DPF filter valuation form or on Viber/WhatsApp +381 65 3300 630.
