Why catalytic converters

Today, four decades later, a catalytic converter is a mandatory part of every new vehicle on the market.
Through a series of chemical reactions, catalytic converters turn harmful exhaust substances such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen dioxide into less harmful carbon dioxide and water vapor. They do this thanks to a core that contains significant amounts of platinum, palladium and rhodium. These precious metals can be recycled, so their service life is much longer than that of a single catalytic converter.
